ABOUT ME
Hello, and thanks for checking out my CV!
My name's Nick, and I like to build things that make people happy 🙂
I consider myself very lucky to have started my career at a company where I had room to grow. I started working at Bluestem Brands as a temp, doing collections over the phone. With time, and through great effort, I changed roles between various parts of the organization, all the way to where I was when I left the company, defining systems architecture and delivering business initiatives for the IT department.
I have always been interested in technology. From a very young age, I was constantly disassembling anything I could get my hands on to learn how it worked. In my professional life, I do a lot less disassembling, but I still find value in understanding before fixing or changing. Many problems presented by the business or the user can be solved in ways that are not always obvious at first, but require careful analysis of the available options. This skill in particular has helped me to excel in project planning and management.
My biggest strength, or closest area of focus, is my ability to do systems integrations. I find joy in discovering ways to make systems work together harmoniously, even if these systems were not always designed to work together. (Or in the same century!) This has enabled the teams I've worked with to achieve new heights using technology previously thought incompatible, and see unprecedented returns for their effort.
Outside of work, I love being involved in my local community. In 2023, I co-founded a nonprofit organization to support the local chess club in my area, serving on the organization's managing board, and designing and hosting websites for the organization until my departure in 2025. In 2024 I joined the managing committee for the local skate park, designing and hosting a website to promote the park and the committee's mission. (https://twintownskatepark.com) I am also an avid bicyclist, and a member of the Breckenridge Active Living Committee. Aside from chess, I also enjoy strategy games, puzzle games, and tabletop games of all kinds; including Magic: the Gathering, and Dungeons & Dragons. I am a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and enjoy performing and writing music for guitar, keys, drums, and synthesizers.
